Review of Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates

Most of you are familiar with the line from the Marine Corp Song “to the shores of Tripoli”. This book dramatizes that line. It tells of the first war fought by the newly formed United States of America. A combined effort between the Navy by sea and the Marine Corp by land against the Tripoli pirates.

Barbary pirates terrorized merchant ships of all nations traveling the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. After European countries failed to deal with this situation, Jefferson led the United States Navy to end the Barbary pirates. This showed the world that the United States was a force to be reckoned with and changed the balance of power in world affairs.

This book is a fast-paced, easy book to read. An excellent choice for any history buff. Review submitted by Pat Bentley.
