REVIEW OF GEORGE WASHINGTON

Review of George Washington’s Secret Six

By Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger

Review by Patricia Bentley

This is the story of the spy ring that helped to save the American Revolution. The authors have researched and compiled a fascinating portrait of the members of the Culper Spy Ring. Their research reveals the names and details of the lives of these brave individuals who risked everything to aid in the fight for liberty. The spy ring consisted of a Quaker merchant, a tavern owner, a longshoreman, a coffeehouse owner, a Long Island bachelor, and a mysterious woman who is still unidentified.

The war was not going well for Washington and the patriots. After forced to retreat from New York City in August 1776, Washington knew he could not defeat the British army in open combat. Instead he recruited and developed a sophisticated spy ring to operate in New York gathering information.

The authors have given us a detailed look and an appreciation for the sacrifices made by these little known heros. If you enjoy a deeper look into the history of our great country, then you will love this book.
